The City of Harare in partnership with various stakeholders is to conduct an open street event on Saturday 25 February 2023 in Ridgeway North Borrowdale. Open streets is a car-free space that connects communities through health recreation, creative expressional, local economic activities and alternative forms of transport City’s Green Ambassador Dereck Mpofu said the campaign will see residents of Borrowdale coming together and interact as well as participate in various events such a cycling, skating, jogging, walking and dancing among others. “Open streets is a term that is used worldwide whereby an identified street is closed on certain days of the week and people are allowed to move freely either by walking or cycling, cars are not allowed within that area “Children can come doing various activities like cycling, dramas and speeches, more like allowing our people to relax, enjoying life in a relaxed manner,” he said. In most cities living space is very small to accommodate much of entertainment so cities introduce this concept where they identify a place in every residential area and close it for entertainment purposes.
