HEAD AMENITIES
Position Overview
Applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced persons for appointment to the above vacant position in the Amenities Division under Engineering Services Department.
Job Purpose
Responsible for coordinating and managing the provision of hygienic, efficient and economic solid waste collection, transportation and treatment and/or disposal in a manner that is safe to the environment. The incumbent provides overall leadership in the formulation and implementation of waste management policy.
Key Performance Areas
Formulates and implements appropriate waste management policies, strategies and systems in a sustainable way.
Manages waste reduction, efficient collection and disposal, recycling, street and public toilets cleaning operations.
Management of Waste Management plant and equipment
Promoting community awareness and behavior change through effective campaigns.
Effective monitoring and control of waste disposal (Industrial & domestic) in compliance with Harare Municipal By-laws and Environmental Management Agency regulations.
Staff Development and performance management.
Fostering win-win partnership relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Submit periodic reports on waste management in order to track divisional operations.
Qualifications and Experience
A Bachelor’s degree in Geography & Environmental Studies/Environmental Health Science/Civil Engineering/Mechanical Engineering/Electrical Engineering.
Post graduate qualification in leadership or management preferably MBA, MBL, MSc or equivalent an added advantage.
Post-graduate qualification with a bias towards Environmental Health or Waste Management is a distinct advantage.
Registration with the relevant professional Institution.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant working experience with 2 years being at middle management level.
Clean Class 4 Driver’s Licence.

Thorough knowledge of relevant pieces of Environmental legislature
Comprehensive understanding of environmental issues.
Appreciation of basic equipment utilization and maintenance standards.
Critical thinking & good analytical skills.
